A tradition since 2002, CDL’s employee volunteers from City Sunshine Club (CSC) have been organising festive celebrations for elderly beneficiaries, to spread joy during the spring festival and engage them meaningfully.
Held at the Grand Ballroom of Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel Singapore, the celebration was hosted by Mrs Cecilia Kwek, wife of CDL Executive Chairman Mr Kwek Leng Beng. She was joined by CDL management representatives including Group CEO Mr Sherman Kwek, Group General Manager Mr Chia Ngiang Hong, Group Chief Strategy Officer Mr Kwek Eik Sheng, Group Chief Financial Officer Ms Yiong Yim Ming, as well as CSC volunteers.
“Lo Hei”, one of the highlights that afternoon, is a significant tradition of the Chinese New Year festivities. “Lo Hei” in Cantonese, signifies “tossing up good fortune” as everyone who participates in this will toss the prosperity salad and recite auspicious phrases to wish for good fortune in the year ahead. CDL management and volunteers took this opportunity to wish the elderly residents good health and fortune when distributing red packets and mandarin oranges to them.
CDL volunteers also performed an energetic dance to the popular “阿狗狗旺旺过好年” (translated as “A Good Dog Year”); song, followed by a medley of evergreen songs and familiar lunar new year tunes, which culminated in a round of upbeat cha-cha dancing. This year, five lucky residents each received a hamper of festive goodies while ten other residents won attractive prizes from games.
